Happy Thanksgiving!

On November 26th, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill that officially made Thanksgiving Day the 4th Thursday in November. This annual celebration has long been an opportunity for families and friends to gather and enjoy spending time with one another while giving thanks for the many blessings that God has given them throughout the year.

Another Thanksgiving tradition, Black Friday, actually marks its beginning around 1966 when the Philadelphia police department dubbed the Friday following Thanksgiving "Black Friday" because as it marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, there was a massive increase in traffic jams and over-crowded stores. In more recent years, this term has been applied to the retail industry because it is one of the the busiest and most profitable shopping day of the year. However, the craziness of traffic and over-crowded stores still remains. Many stores offer large discounts trying to encourage shoppers who are willing to brave the early hours and crowds. Enjoy your shopping, and be on the lookout for the barrels asking for donations. Many organizations are seeking our help in providing for people in our community. Toys for Tots, Blue and Brown Santa, the Caring Place, and Coats for Kids are just a few. A small donation can really make a difference in someone's life.

Whatever your traditions are, I hope you enjoy them all! We keep so busy and focused throughout much of the year, that it is good to take some time out to enjoy all that God has given us.  He has blessed my life in many ways, as I am sure he has yours!

Many blessings on your holiday week! I look forward to seeing you all back on Monday, refreshed and in the Christmas spirit!

Ephesians 4:29-32 (New International Version)

29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
