This weekend we will be honoring our grandparents with the annual Grandparent's Day Luncheon and Art Fair at Zion. Please join us for church and a pot luck meal this Sunday, September 11th. Classrooms will be open for you to visit, and art projects will be on display. We are looking forward to meeting your special grandparents!
On another note, Sunday also marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington DC, and Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Looking back on that Tuesday ten years ago, I remember exactly where I was when I watched an airpline fly into the second tour of the World Trade Center. There was so much confusion and sadness that it was hard to believe something so tragic had occured. I also remember that in the days, weeks, and months following the attacks, Americans united together in a strong way. I found myself, like so many others, seeking comfort in the Lord. I knew that He had a plan for us, and that He would see us through this difficult time.
On our recent trip to Washington DC, the 8th graders and I visited the recently opened Pentagon Memorial at the Pentagon. This peaceful memorial honors the men, women, and children who lost their lives that day either in the Pentagon or on the plane that crashed into the building. It was a very moving experience to read the names on the benches because they were grouped together by family and by age. It is sad to know that their lives ended so abruptly, but there is comfort knowing that our heavenly Father welcomed them home that day.
Below is a picture of the memorial. The benches that you see have the name of a person inscribed. If you are reading the name and looking at the building, that person died inside the Pengtagon on 9/11. If you are reading the name and you are looking to the sky, they were aboard the aircraft that day. As you enjoy your weekend, take some time to remember and pray for those who were lost that day, and the families that now live without their loved ones. Pray also for those who survived, for they will always live with the memories of that terrible day.
Blessings on your weekend,

Ephesians 4:29-32 (New International Version)
29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
